Rebooked: ECW One Night Stand 2005

ECW One Night Stand 2005
Backstory

There have been many ECW tribute shows that have tried to recapture the excitement of Extreme Championship Wrestling. But there will always be only one true ECW tribute show, ECW One Night Stand 2005.

Extreme Championship Wrestling was a wrestling promotion like none other. ECW came about in one of the most iconic images in wrestling history, Shane Douglas, the reigning NWA World Heavyweight Champion threw down the belt and claimed the Eastern Championship Wrestling title, calling the title a true World Heavyweight Championship. This action was the birth of the rebellious ECW and paved the way for the years following with controversial angles, hardcore stipulations and fans with a passion for wrestling unmatched anywhere else on this earth.

In late 2004 wheels were set in motion for an ECW tribute PPV, thanks to former ECW talent now working for WWE such as Paul Heyman and Rob Van Dam. Heyman was left in charge of booking the show and immediately began ringing former ECW employers to put on the greatest ECW tribute show that there ever was. However, there was one big problem. One of ECW’s top workers and most loyal was injured, Rob Van Dam. A tribute show without the “Whole Dam Show” would be a huge miss. But Rob Van Dam promised he would rehab his injured knee as fast as he could to return for the PPV.

The date was set, June 12th 2005 ECW would return for a One Night Stand. WWE programming began to promote the PPV. Originally there were plans for there to be anti-ECW group from within WWE to rival the forthcoming show however this storyline never came to light. WWE programming advertised the PPV by showing old clips of previous matches and had former ECW employees to give documentary interviews. The card was slowly beginning to come together. There was a mixture of old feuds reignited and dream matches that never took place. However, one name was still missing, Rob Van Dam.

ECW One Night Stand Preview

With just weeks before ECW returns for One Night Stand we have a run-down of the card, exclusively here on WWE.com.

Infamous Triple Threat
Super Crazy vs. Tajiri vs. Little Guido
Three different wrestlers, from three different countries with three completely different styles showed what ECW was all about when they first met up in ECW and launched all three men onto the big stage in the future. Super Crazy with his Lucha Libre moves, Tajiri with his puroresu skills and Little Guido with hit shooter style. Just liked the original, this is sure to be off the charts.

Impact Players Implode
Lance Storm vs. Justin Credible
Acquaintances, tag partners, friends there are many ways to describe the relationship these two have with each other. These two began teaming in 1999 and formed the name the Impact Players. They had great success winning the ECW World Tag Team Titles. However, despite their skill as a team they now face off one on one to determine who the best Impact Player really is. Both men want to prove themselves as the better man but neither man will be willing to let go.

Brotherly Warfare
The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray and D-Von) vs. Spike Dudley and Balls Mahoney
Blood is thicker than water. And tables are thicker than blood according to the Dudley family. The Dudley Boyz will return to their ECW roots where they first began and across the ring will be a very familiar face, their own brother, little Spike Dudley. The “Giant Killer” will attempt to topple not just his brothers but the most illustrious tag team in ECW history. Alongside him will be tag partner, Balls Mahoney who together have beaten the Dudley Boyz for the ECW World Tag Team titles twice.

Mexican Death Match
Rey Misterio Jr. vs. Psychosis
These two rivals have wrestled all around the world, from their home of Mexico, to the far off land of Japan but their first break in America came in ECW. Both men have gone on to have wonderful careers but it is debatable that without their first match in the States, they wouldn’t be where they are today. So now these two return to the match that started their careers, the Mexican Death Match.

ECW’s Legacy
Eddie Guerrero vs. Chris Jericho
There has been many wrestlers who rode the ride through ECW and went onto become big names but two of the most well-known names had their first big role in ECW are Eddie Guerrero and Chris Jericho. Between them they have won many titles and many accolades and ECW gave them their first big chance with gold. Now these two face off in tribute to all the workers who passed through ECW.

You Broke my Neck
Sabu (with Bill Alfonso) vs. Chris Benoit
An historic moment and a landmark event in ECW happened at November 2 Remember 1994. In the scheduled main event the “Homicidal, Suicidal, Genocidal, Death Defying" Sabu got dumped on his head by Chris Benoit leaving him on the shelf injured. From then on Benoit was known as “The Crippler” and went onto great success. Despite his quietness, Sabu has made it clear that he’s still wants vengeance for what Beniot did to him and is willing to put everything on the line to get it.

Legends of ECW
Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman vs. Mick Foley and Terry Funk
ECW was notorious for its hardcore nature and rough and ready talent but none envision the image of ECW quite like the four competitors in our main event. Between them they have won the ECW World Heavyweight title 8 times and the ECW World Tag Team Championship 6 times. All four have storied histories with ECW and will all look to pull out all the stops to put on a great performance for the ECW fans.

Well, that’s all for now. We can only predict what the ECW PPV will turn out like due to it’s history of being very unpredictable. To find out what happens dial your PPV provider now.

ECW One Night Stand
June 12th 2005

The show opens with a large clip package highlighting all the key moments from ECW, including it’s demise. There’s more hype as the video ends with “But tonight we return for a One Night Stand.” The camera then cuts to the arena with its deafening “EC-DUB, EC-DUB” screams in the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York.

Paul Heyman was the first man to make his way out to an ravenous applause. Heyman is stopped from speaking due to the repeated “EC-DUB” chants. Heyman finally gets chance to speak and riles up the crowd even more. He said tonight all the wrestlers will put everything on the line for the fans. We then went over to out commentators, Joey Styles and Taz to run down the card.

Match 1) Super Crazy vs. Tajiri (with The Sinister Minister and Mikey Whipwreck) vs. Little Guido (with Tracy Smothers, Tony Mamaluke and Big Guido)
As you would expect all three men used their differing styles to outdo the other competitors. The action was very fast paced with move after move after move. The match built up to a spot where all at ringside (including non-competitors) fought into the crowd. Then Super Crazy (who had just disappeared) appeared in the balcony. Crazy lived up to his name hitting a moonsault from the balcony onto all below! The match ended soon after back in the ring after Smothers tried to aid Guido but ended up getting the Posion Mist from Tajiri. Tajiri then finished off Guido with the Buzzsaw Kick.

Joel Gertner was at an interview set with Sabu and his manager Bill Alfonso. Alfonso said how Sabu is the most dangerous man alive and Beniot will find that out later on tonight. Alfonso promised Beniot that Sabu will snap his neck in two just like Beniot did to him 11 years ago.

Match 2) Lance Storm vs. Justin Credible (with Dawn Marie)
Before the match Storm took the mic and asked why they are facing off since they are good friends. Credible snatched the mic away from him and told Lance that he was a “Sell-out” by leaving ECW when they needed him most. Credible then brought out Dawn Marie to be in his corner and attacked Storm when he wasn’t looking. In the match the two traded holds and submissions before building the match up. Dawn Marie got up on the apron but miscommunication sent Credible headfirst into her. Justin recovered and went for the That’s Incredible only for Lance to reverse it perfectly setting up a Deep Impact for the win. Following the bout Lance offered a hand shake, Justin refused but then hugged Lance. Lance, Justin and Dawn all celebrated together before leaving.

Match 3) The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray and D-Von) vs. Spike Dudley and Balls Mahoney
A different bout to the two that this has followed on from. The Dudley’s made immediate impact attacking their opponents in their entrance. They quickly wiped out their brother with an aided powerbomb through a table. The Dudley’s then worked on Balls and busted him open for the first blood spill of the night. Balls tried to fight back but the handicap was too much. During this 2 on 1 beating Bubba took time out to insult some fans. Spike made his return with a chair and turned the odds in his team’s favour busting both his brothers open. From there the action was even and more importantly hardcore. After almost killing Spike with a throw to the outside, the Dudleys lit a table on fire and powerbombed Balls through it OMG! Post match as the ring crew cleaned the ring Bubba grabbed a mic and continued to insult the fans even calling Hat Guy “a worthless pile of semen.”

Paul Heyman returned to the ring to introduce a video of a tribute to ECW wrestlers that have passed on. The fans respected the one minute silence Heyman requested then continued “EC-DUB” to show their respect for all the workers who have passed away.

Match 4) Mexican Death Match: Rey Misterio Jr. vs. Psychosis
Both men were wearing attires alike to that of what they wore in their original encounter in 1995. The match was held under Mexican Death match rules just like the original. As well as being best friends these two have been great opponents and know each other so well. The first fall went to Rey after he hit the West Coast Pop in the centre of the ring. Psychosis quickly stole the second after Rey’s attempt at a hurricanrana was flipped around a full 360 and Pyschosis got the pin. Joey Styles shouted "Ay Dios Mio” translated to Oh My God! After that move adding “I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that before!” The match continued with both men going all out for the final fall. The action later entered the crowd. Just like back at November to Remember 1995, Rey found a raised platform to climb. After climbing to the top Rey dived off and hit a hurricanrana on Psychosis. However, Psychosis kicked out! They fought back to the ring where Rey tripped his opponent up on the ropes. Rey finished off with a 619 (which wasn’t met too happily to the diehard ECW fans) to get the final fall.

Joel Gertner was yet again at the interview area. He begins his speech about why he loves ECW only for Terry Funk to appear instantly knocking Gertner out with a punch. Funk cuts a mad promo about how he had to return to the ring tonight. He added it will be an “honour” to team up with Foley and a “privilege” to whup Dreamer and Sandman a****.

Match 5) Eddie Guerrero vs. Chris Jericho:
Like the match before both men had “retro attires” as Taz put it, they were wearing attires that replicated previous attires worn in ECW. As said in the preview this bout was a tribute to all the great workers who have passed through ECW. The action was top notch with both men putting on great performances. They teased the fans with multiple near falls and some ECW-esq spots.  Jericho took a dive off the apron toward Eddie who protected himself with a chair. The action continued with Eddie placing Jericho on a ladder for a Frog Splash but Chris moved sending Eddie front first onto the ladder. Jericho capitalised with a Lionsault, crushing Eddie between his opponent and the ladder. The battle raged on as both men traded blows but Jericho’s Liontamer made Eddie submit.

The Blue World Order’s (B.W.O) Stevie Richards, Hollywood Nova and the Blue Meanie all made their way out. Stevie complained how the three weren’t booked on the show while maintaining his NWO parody. He then announced that their leader was here pointing to the entrance. After a long build up with the fans chanting “Raven” Stevie revealed it was all a hoax and called Raven a pussy for not showing up and showing where his true loyalties lie. They continued their “take over” of the PPV until Taz got up from commentary claiming “enough was enough.” Taz marched down to the ring telling them they have one last chance to get out of the ring. Instead Meanie gave Taz a middle finger. Taz then destroyed all three members of the B.W.O quickly, thowing Stevie and Nova about with suplexes then locking in the Tazmission on Meanie. The B.W.O finally pulled Meanie away and scurried away as Taz remained in the ring, standing with arms folded.

Match 6) Sabu (with Bill Alfonso) vs. Chris Benoit
The action started right away with Sabu’s entrance. The “Homicidal, Suicidal, Genocidal, Death Defying" Sabu came running out for his entrance launching two chairs at Benoit in the ring immediately. “The Crippler” took the fight back to Sabu and tried to neutralise Sabu by keeping him away from weapons however with Bill Alfonso at ringside Sabu was handed weapons at every opportunity. The action continued to a point where Benoit attempted to drop Sabu on his head again! However Sabu reversed out of it after blocking numerous attempts. A table was brought into play where Sabu came flying off the ropes hitting a led drop with a chair in his hand onto Benoit who was laid on the table. Sabu never went for the pin always wanting to go for more punishment on the man who broke his neck. Alfonso set up a table between the apron and the guardrail which was later used against his own man as Benoit reversed a dive into a German Suplex off the apron through the table! Sabu locked in the Arabian Clutch for a rare submission victory over Benoit. The bell rung as Sabu won but he wouldn’t let go. Alfonso tried to stop him but Sabu was out of control. After attacking some staff who tried to intervene Sabu exited.

Match 7) Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman vs. Mick Foley and Terry Funk
In the scheduled main event of the evening all four men got thunderous applause and chant. The Sandman even made his trademark entrance though the crowd singing to “Enter Sandman” while swinging his cane and drinking his beer. After all men had entered the crowd burst out their loudest “EC-DUB” chant of the night which went on for minutes. The action itself was what you would expect from four of the toughest men ECW has ever held host to. Every kind of weapon was used in this bout from barbed wire, steel chains and even a ladder which Funk missed a Moonsault from. The action went into the crowd briefly where Sandman smashed Foley up with multiple beer cans. Heading into the closing minutes all four men were bleeding heavily. Sandman was knocked off the apron into a barbed wire board on the outside. Foley followed this up with a Diving Elbow off the apron onto Sandman in the barbed wire. Meanwhile in the ring Funk and Dreamer traded blows before Dreamer hoisted a heavily bleeding Funk onto his shoulders for a Dreamer Driver for the 3-count. After being cut out of the barbed wire, Sandman and Foley joined Funk and Dreamer in the ring. Sandman grabbed a 6-pack of beers and handed them out to the 3 other competitors. They all celebrated, hugged and drunk beer to end the broadcast.

Or so we thought. From out of the crowd and behind the 4 ECW legends came Rhino. He hit the Gore on all 4 competitors and cleared the ring of their bodies. The fans were boo’ing him as he exited the ring to bring something back into the ring. He brought a black bag, he undid the drawstring and brought out the ECW World Heavyweight Championship. Grabbing a mic he said how much of a travesty it is for the true ECW World Champion not to be on the show. He cut a shoot promo directed at WWE for not realising his potential and how he still is a true World Champion. But he was interrupted by the music “Walk” by Pantera. This meant only one thing, “the Whole F’n Show” Rob Van Dam! Van Dam made his way out taking his time to soak in the whole atmosphere. The fans were the loudest they have been all night as Van Dam slid in the ring but Rhino obviously didn’t like Van Dam taking all his attention and attacked him straight away.

Match 8) Rob Van Dam vs. Rhino
The fans were really vocal in this final unsanctioned match. Van Dam was the obvious fan favourite making his return from injury and Rhino was hated for attacking the ECW legends. Rhino dominated the early parts of the match using his superior strength and power over Van Dam. RVD fought back using quickness to get the momentum before bringing a chair into the match. Rhino fought back smashing the chair over RVD’s lower back but RVD was soon back on the offensive with a kick smashing the chair back in Rhino’s face. Rob Van Dam followed it up with a chair assisted Rolling Thunder. Rhino later nailed a huge Powerbomb which send RVD crashing onto the canvas, somehow RVD got the arm up to keep the match going. The match led to Rhino throwing the chair from the ring after continuously being assaulted with it then lined RVD up for the Gore though a table set up in the corner. However, as Rhino charged, RVD leapfrogged “the Man Monster” and Rhino crashed into the referee sending him thought the table! The match continued with no referee as the two competitors traded blows in the corner. Rhino attempted to lift RVD into a Rhino Driver from the second rope which would have defiantly ended the match-up but RVD countered sending Rhino to the mat with a head kick. Perched on the top rope RVD hit the Five-Star Frog Splash with pin point precision even adjusting his body shape in mid-air to hit Rhino with all his force. RVD rolled back over his opponent but there was no count with the referee still broken in half in the corner. Out came Paul Heyman who slid in and made the 3-count. The show ended with Rob Van Dam celebrating and Paul Heyman picking up the ECW World Heavyweight title and handing it over to RVD. Wrestlers who had competed throughout the night all came out to celebrate and listen to the fans chant “EC-DUB” one last time.

Aftermath

The 2005 ECW One Night Stand proved to be a huge success. Fans and wrestlers alike commented on how well it worked and there were soon petitions made for another. WWE saw the potential they could have and quickly came to a decision in late 2005. ECW One Night Stand was to return and following the show ECW would return as a third brand with its own TV show on the Sci-Fi Channel. The build up began at Wrestlemania 22 where Rob Van Dam won the Money in the Bank match. Soon after RVD said he would use his title shot on the 11th June, the night of ECW One Night Stand 2.

Unlike the first show, the PPV featured not just ECW alumni but also ECW vs. WWE matches which was headlined by ECW’s Rob Van Dam facing the WWE’s John Cena for the WWE title. The undercard featured such matches as The Sandman and Tommy Dreamer teaming up once more to face WWE’s invading team of Randy Orton and Edge and Sabu facing Kurt Angle. The action led to the main event where the hostile crowd watched as Rob Van Dam beat John Cena cleanly with the Five-Star Frog Splash to become ECW World Champion.

The ECW brand was then launched with Rob Van Dam as the main face of the promotion. Although he lost the WWE Championship within 2 months he held onto the ECW World title for 6 months facing all competitors. The ECW brand served as an alternative to the other WWE brands with its hardcore wrestling and edgy style. Paul Heyman was given plenty of control to make this incarnation of ECW a big success. Heyman mixed the ECW originals with some newer characters which the WWE brought in such as Kevin Thorn- a Vampire with a lust for blood, Elijah Burke - a New York street preacher and most importantly CM Punk- a talented young Straight Edge athlete.

ECW was later given a second PPV “December to Dismember” which Heyman took full advantage of to showcase the ECW talent putting on another good PPV headlined by Rob Van Dam losing the ECW title to the recently turned heel Kurt Angle. Angle had joined the roster originally as a face as the big shock on ECW’s first TV episode but in late 2006 Angle turned heel as he set his sights on the title injuring Van Dam’s ankle in the process. With a new champion and a new year the future looked bright for ECW. Heyman continued to book ECW strongly as it continued to do well in the ratings despite fans unwillingness to see some of the wrestlers move away from the Extreme brand in the annual WWE draft.

CM Punk caused huge waves in the new ECW. He quickly developed a following and won the respect of many of the ECW Legends especially Tommy Dreamer who took the “Straight Edge Superstar” under his wing. Punk battled for the ECW World title on numerous occasions each time getting closer to holding the belt. He won the Money in the Back briefcase at Wrestlemania 23 and over the next 9 months teased on who he would cash the briefcase on (having the choice of all 3 World champions from the 3 brands) Eventually he chose to cash in against ECW World Champion, Tommy Dreamer minutes after he had just won the belt.

Punk turned heel now calling himself “the Saviour of ECW.” He claimed it was his mission to take out all ECW originals and set about on his quest to do so. After “retiring” such Extremists as The Sandman, Balls Mahoney and Stevie Richards, Punk changed his mission objective. From now on Punk said he would not just get rid of the ECW Originals but ECW all together. Many ECW wrestlers stepped up to “the Second City Saint” and many failed including the return of his former mentor, Tommy Dreamer. With ECW falling, Paul Heyman made the call to one man to return to fight Punk, Rob Van Dam. It was “Do or Die” for both men with not just the title on the line but also ECW. Punk defeated RVD in an absolute show stopper to retain the ECW World title and close the ECW brand once and for all.

Rebooked: The Rock versus Hollywood Hulk Hogan

The Build-Up

It all started at No Way Out where Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall known as the NWO returned to the WWE. Their main targets soon became clear in the two of the company’s top faces, Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock.

The NWO started by attacking The Rock backstage and costing Steve Austin the WWF Undisputed Championship. Austin and The Rock met up the following week and became united under their hate of the NWO (although they faced off at WrestleMania only a year before). They brawled with the NWO from the ring into a parking lot until the NWO took the numbers advantage. After smashing The Rock though a windscreen the NWO ran off. The following week Stone Cold entered the arena alone and was beaten down by all three members of the NWO. His scheduled match with Kevin Nash never officially started.

The Rock returned the next week and called out the former “Hulkster” to come out alone. Hogan answered his challenge and came to the ring by himself. The two had an intense conversation. The Rock talked about how dream matches are usually just dreams but they can make this dream a reality. Hogan declined a match between the two until The Rock slapped him in the face and mocked his manhood. Hall and Nash came from the crowd and attacked The Rock until the crowd were treated to the sound of glass shattering as Stone Cold came out. Austin was able to throw all three NWO members from the ring and then proceeded to share a beer with the “Great One.”

The next week a double contract signing was held for WrestleMania X8. The Rock would challenge Hollywood Hulk Hogan while Steve Austin would face Scott Hall. After all four men signed it erupted into a brawl where Austin fought both Nash and Hall into the crowd while the “People’s Champion” and Hogan fought in the ring. Hall, Nash and Austin then disappeared while referee’s and officials pulled Rock and Hogan apart.

On the Raw before the big event the NWO were informed that they would be in a handicap match against The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin in the Main Event. The match was back and forth with the NWO’s Hogan and Hall refusing to face their WrestleMania opponents. The Rock eventually got in the ring with Hogan but Hogan caused a DQ after a blatant low blow. Leaving a final image before WrestleMania of the NWO spray painting their stables initials on their opponent’s backs.

The Show

OTHER MATCHES
After 9 matches which included Rob Van Dam being crowned the new Intercontinental Champion, Kurt Angle toppling Kane and the Undertaker coming up top over Ric Flair it was time for the match billed as “Icon vs. Icon” Just two matches before Stone Cold Steve Austin opened up his trademark can of whoop a** on Hogan’s fellow NWO stable mate, Scott Hall.

NWO WORRIED?

Both Hall and Kevin Nash were distressed about the loss wondering if it will effect Hogan in his match with The Rock later tonight. We see Hogan’s views in a short segment after the Tag Team Title match.

Hall: (Pacing back and forth) Hey yo, could you believe what just happened out there tonight?
Nash: Just calm down look Hogan’s got it covered. He’ll beat Rocky tonight then we’ll get our revenge on Austin, yeah?

Hogan walks onto the set in full wrestling attire and his black and white feather bowers. We hear a load roar from the crowd in the sold out SkyDome.

Hogan: What’s the matter brother?
Nash: Nothing Hulk. You just concentrate on your match.
Hogan: Oh I’m ready brother. I’m ready to rip this jabroni a new a** hole.
Hall: Well you better be. Rocky gonna bring his A-game.
Hogan: And I’m gonna to bring the same because tonight is the night the world watches it’s “People Champion” crumbles before the might of the N...W...O!

“A year ago we would have thought this match could have never occurred but there’s only one place, only one stage for this match, Wrestlemania X8. The Rock versus Hollywood Hulk Hogan.”
Jim Ross- WWE Commentator

HOGAN RETURNS

The immortal riffs of the NWO Music plays as the SkyDome turns black and white. Hogan struts out onto the stage playing his air guitar load and proud. He continues his strut down the ramp and into the ring where the screen returns to normal. The commentators make note that this is Hogan’s tenth Wrestlemania and his first in 9 years. As the music stops a loud “Hogan, Hogan” chant is heard. Hogan smiles, then turns away.

THE PEOPLE’S ENTRANCE

“If you smell what the Rock is cooking…” The timeless words to The Rock’s entrance theme cuts Hogan’s nostalgic chants from the audience. As The Rock emerges from the entrance the crowd cheer even louder. “The Great One” pauses on the stage and looks around into the audience before beginning his journey on marching down to the ring. The Rock leaps up onto the steel steps and walks across to the ring ropes before striking his signature pose on the top turnbuckle.

THE STAREDOWN

The Rock jumps down and the music cuts and the crowd are heard in their deafening cheers for both competitors. Hogan removes his sunglasses and walks up to The Rock. They meet face to face in the centre of the ring. After a few moments of staring at each other they turn to the crowd, split on their chosen Icon. They then back up towards their respective turnbuckles as the ring bell sounds.

The Match

The two icons lock up in the middle of the ring. After seconds of struggling Hogan gets the advantage and backs The Rock up into the ropes. The referee makes a 4 count and Hogan releases. They centre back up in the ring then lock up once more. After more struggling to gain the advantage The Rock comes out on top and forces Hogan into the ropes. The referee once again makes the count and The Rock releases. Hogan then pushes The Rock back into the centre of the ring. For a third time they lock up. They struggle back and forth with both men nearing the ropes until Hogan hits a big scoop slam sending The Rock to the floor sending the Hogan fans into a frenzy.

The Rock quickly gets back onto his feet but now holding his back. They lock up again but only briefly as Hogan irish whips Rock into the ropes. On the rebound Hogan lifts his arm out in a clothesline knocking The Rock down for a second time. The Rock gets back up but this time slower. Hogan grabs Rock around the head and gives him a clubbing blow to the back. After a third hit Rock goes down and Hogan taunts to the crowd. Hogan reaches down to pick up his opponent but Rock pushes away. Rock follows up with a few fists sending Hulk back into the ropes.

Rock grabs Hogan and sends him into ropes and as he comes back he hits a clothesline to knock Hogan off his feet. The Rock then takes his turn to taunt the crowd as Hogan slowly reaches his feet. Rock goes for an early Rock Bottom but Hogan counters with some elbows to the head. Hogan then sends Rock into the turnbuckle. Rock is able to give an elbow back to Hogan who quickly reacts with a back rake. The referee warns Hogan who follows in on the “The Great One”.

The Rock stumbles into the centre of the ring where Hogan attacks from behind in an Atomic Drop. Rock goes down and Hogan follows with two consecutive elbow drops. The third is only stopped as Hogan whips his shoe over The Rock’s face. Hogan taunts the crowd once more who are cheering loudly for him. This allows Rocky to get to his feet and deliver 3 quick blows to Hogan’s ribs. The Rock tries for a Samoan Drop on Hogan who is able to slip out from the move and hit a back suplex. Both men get to their feet around the same time.

They struggle over the advantage until The Rock pulls out a front suplex which keeps Hogan down. The Rock tries for a 3-count but only gets a two. Strangely The Rock exits the ring onto the apron and starts ascending the turnbuckle. The Rock waits on the top rope until Hogan gets to his feet. The Rock dives off in a diving crossbody but fails to connect as Hogan moves out of the way. Hogan tries for the win after an unusual top rope move from The Rock but only gets a two count. Back on their feet Hogan gets ready to lift The Rock in military press slam but the Rock jumps out from behind hitting a Russian leg sweep for his own close count.

With Hollywood down The Rock looks around to the millions (and millions) of The Rock fans in the arena and watching around the world and prepares for the Peoples Elbow. He kicks the arm in, removes the elbow pad then throws it before setting off into the ropes. Hogan is able to get to his feet in time and hit a big shoulder block to counter. With The Rock down Hogan locks in a sleeper hold. The Rock nearly falls unconscious to the hold but is revived before the referee’s count of three. The Rock gets to his feet and gives three elbows to Hogan’s mid section.

He is able escape the hold and run into the ropes but as he comes back Hogan hits the big boot. Hogan quickly covers but gets another two count. Back on their feet the two opponents both delivers punches until The Rock ducks Hogan’s fist and grabs his legs. Yanking them in the air he sends Hogan onto his back. The Rock crosses the legs and turns him over for the Sharpshooter. Hogan screams in agony but is able to eventually reach the ropes.

The Rock makes the break then gets the weakened Hogan to his feet against the ropes. Rock sends him into the ropes and delivers a spinebuster. The Rock looks like he is going for a pin but instead pulls his opponent to his feet. The Rock then hits his signature move the Rock Bottom and quickly hooks the leg. But the Hulkster kicks out again.

The Rock signals for one more and lifts the battered body of Hogan to his feet but Hogan starts to shake his head. The Rock starts to punch away to no effect as Hogan shakes his head and then his fists. The Rock tries for his trademark palm strike but Hogan is Hulking up! Hogan starts his punches on the Rock then sends him into the ropes for a big boot. Hogan then signals to the crowd for the Leg Drop and is able to hit it. Hogan goes for the cover but the “People’s Champion” is able to get a shoulder up before the count of three to continue this historic match.

The Rock then rolls to the outside to recover as Hogan sits in the ring in disbelief. Hogan then follows The Rock to the outside but is met by the Rock smashing his face into the announce table. The Rock throws Hogan back into the ring and signals for a second People’s Elbow. Once again he kicks the arm then removes the second elbow pad and throws it into the crowd. On the way back from the ropes Hogan is able to trip the Rock up.

Both men stay down until the count of 9 from the official. Once back on their feet they come face to face once more. Both exhausted after hitting their big moves and still unable to get the 3-count. The stare down is broken up by Hogan’s right hand hitting The Rock’s face. The Rock delivers one back and they continue to trade blows until Hogan catches The Rock in his own Rock Bottom!

Hogan gets back up and mocks the Rock by trying for the Peoples Elbow. He kicks in the arm, removes an imaginary elbow pad and throws it into the crowd. Hogan comes back off the ropes but is met by a Rock Bottom. With sweat dripping off his brow and his heart racing The Rock kicks in the arm, removes the... realises he has no elbow pad left and just raises his arm to the “Just bring it” pose. Then runs into the ropes and returns with an elbow to Hogan’s chest. The crowd wait in disbelief for the count. 1..2..3

THE AFTERMATH

The Rock stumbles to his feet with help from the referee then gets his hand raised to the sell out crowd. Hogan very slowly gets to his feet with sweat pouring off him clutching both his back and his midsection. The Rock comes down off the turnbuckle and returns face to face with Hogan. As it looks like they’re going to start fighting again Hogan extends his hand in a handshake. The Rock looks around as if he’s asking the crowd should he shake his hand after what he has done. The Rock then shakes the hand and a smile grows on both men’s faces.

This is until Scott Hall and Kevin Nash walk down to the ring. They enter the ring and walk over to Hogan. You can see that they are upset with him and are asking him why he shook his hand. Hogan doesn’t respond and Hall pushes Hogan. Hogan then straightens up and punches Hall and Nash. Hall gets back up but the Rock grabs him so that Hogan can strike Hall. Hogan lines up the punch but as he goes to connect with a punch on Hall, The Rock moves and delivers a kick between the legs of Hogan before delivering yet another Rock Bottom.

The Rock’s smile returns as Nash pulls out a spray can and hands it over to The Rock. In the middle of the ring The Rock spray paints “NWO” on Hogan’s back. Hall, Nash and Rock stand over Hogan’s body as the camera zooms in on the back on Hogan.

Rebooked: Wyatt versus Taker

Rebooking Undertaker at WrestleMania 31
Continuing from current booking.

RAW Feb 9th
Bray Wyatt appeared on the big screen, darkness all around him. He was rocking in his chair with the lantern in his hand. He walks towards the camera with the lantern held up to illuminate his face.

“Home. Home is where the heart is. But I have no heart… And I know you don’t too. For you made a deal with a devil. And so did I. This Faustian pact we’ve made runs deep. DEEP INTO OUR VERY BLOOD! We can’t escape it, oh no, we can never run from it. It is in us. In both of us. It makes up the very essence of us. But there is one way to kick it out. That is to beat it out. Do you want me to put you to rest? You, the wounded animal. I, the merciful. I will lay you to rest.”
----

Later on in the show, the “Eater of Worlds” took on his former friend Erick Rowan. Wyatt was in full control. Erick got a few shots in but when the action spilled to the floor, Wyatt threw Rowan into the steel steps. Wyatt placed Rowan’s head over the steel steps and grabbed a chair. Standing on top of the steps with the chair in hand, Wyatt proclaimed “Let this be a message!” And then sandwiched Rowan’s head between the chair and the steps.

RAW Feb 16th
The big screen in the arena went black with Wyatt’s signature noise sounding. He began talking, still unseen.

“Isn’t it a strange phenomenon? Something that we all see with our own two eyes. It’s something we take for granted. Then when it happens. After years of triumph. The inevitable fall.”

A scull then appeared lit by a single lantern.

“A vision that shocked the world! Broke hearts and minds alike. Wasn’t it a sight. To have everything you have ever known questioned. Just think, what it was like to be you. To suffer such defeat after being the big dog for so long. Then you wander back in your cave, weakened, sad… alone. For a year you have dragged your feet and hidden your once fearful face. I can end this. I can put you out of your misery."

The scull moved out odd view and Wyatt’s face appears.

“Let me be the one.”

Wyatt laughs, holding the lantern in one hand and the scull in the other.

Later on in the show, we saw a clip from the after show of last week’s Raw. Erick Rowan swore revenge on Bray Wyatt and challenged him to a match at Fast Lane. This was then officially announced.

Fast Lane Feb 22nd

Erick Rowan made his way out first and waited for his former leader. Wyatt then walked to the ring in his usual manner. But with the scull from Raw in his hand. The match itself started with Rowan being the more aggressive out of the two. But a shot to Rowan’s throat turned the tides. Wyatt spoke throughout the match but it wasn’t clear what he was saying. On the outside, Wyatt threw Rowan into the barricade and the steel steps. “This is your future, this is your end.” Wyatt shouted. Back in the ring, a beaten Rowan didn’t stand much of a chance and soon fell to the Sister Abigail.

Wyatt celebrated his win, kneeling in the middle of the ring with his arms outstretched. Then…

Gong.

The lights went out and Wyatt sprung up to his feet. When the lights came back on Wyatt was standing. He looked around. “Is that all you got?” Wyatt screamed, “Your tricks don’t work on me.”

RAW Feb 23rd
Bray Wyatt took on Zakk Ryder. The match lasted less than three minutes. Ryder got one move in which was a dropkick. But Wyatt no sold it and clotheslined him. A Sister Abigail gave the win to “the New Face of Fear”. After the match Wyatt took a mic, he cradled Ryder in his lap and began to speak:

“You think you can scare me? I am a not a man, I am no mortal. For I fear nothing. But you. I am beginning to see through clear eyes now, that you, you are… you are just a man. Just a man. Unworthy to see me in my grander. I see now. OH NOW I SEE! That you are a man with a box of tricks. A conman, A LIAR! You are nothing. That is why I must see your destruction. That is why I must take your place as my own. I must take your mantle and become… a Phenom.”

RAW Mar 2nd
Gong.

The Undertaker’s music plays but Bray Wyatt comes out with lantern and an urn in his hands. In the ring stands his rocking chair. He puts one either side of him, and rests back in his chair. The arena in darkness with a spotlight on the chair, the urn and the lantern. He picked up a mic he began to quote Napoleon:

“'There is one kind of robber whom the law does not strike at, and who steals what is most precious to men: time.’ It is what has made you weak. The past was an easier time. When men were feared just by their name. This is not your time anymore. This is A NEW ERA. And a new era deserves a new leader. One who is strong enough to make the right call. One who does no petty tricks. Just like in the wild, in order to become the new leader, I must vanquish the old. Even if the old is weak and beaten. I must lay it to rest. I must finish the job and ensure that you…”

Wyatt stands up.

“REST IN PIECE.”

The fans begin to chant “This is awesome,” as Wyatt continues.

“But first, I must seek you out from your resting place. And drive that final stake into your cold dark heart. For it will be the final touch you will feel. Next week... (whispers) I will find you.”

RAW Mar 9th
We are shown a graveyard in darkness. The camera pans across this graveyard to Bray Wyatt. He has one arm resting on a gravestone and the other is holding the lantern. The camera moves closer and there are a team of men excavating a grave. As they begin to lift the coffin from the hole, Wyatt speaks:

“I know where you rest. I know who you are. I know that everything you say is a lie. And so let me ask you a question. Who is it who holds the keys to the Kingdom? The Kingdom of life and death, WHERE SOULS GO TO REST? Ha, it’s not you. What will become of you when you are done? When I send you on that road. Where will you go? Have you been a good man? Oh, no. May Lord have mercy on your soul, for you have sinned. You have sinned more than anyone else. And for that I will be your punisher. I will be your executioner. I will decide your fate.”

The men use a crowbar to open the coffin but leave the lid closed.

“You must be dealt with. No longer are you the dragon than needs to be fed. Ha, the Knight has already slain you. You have been bleeding out for too long. I am the dragon lord come to get rid of the pain. I have come for your head. So that I can bask in your glory become you. The new immortal. The life everlasting. The Deadman.”

Wyatt opens the coffin and inside is a sign for WrestleMania. He laughs and the camera pans to the gravestone which reads “Here Lies The Undertaker 1990-2015” and Wyatt’s signature noise screeches the promo to an end.

RAW Mar 16th
Bray Wyatt was in action as he faced off against Ryback. The match was pretty even early on with Ryback’s power game proving a problem for “The Pied Piper of Terror”. A superplex from Ryback left both men down. Then Wyatt sat up, a nod to his possible WrestleMania opponent. “The Eater of World’s” then took full control, with his vicious offence. Ryback soon fell to the Sister Abigail. Wyatt took the mic post match:

“This… this is a time for…”

Gong

The Undertaker’s music played and “The Deadman” made his way out onto the stage to an epic roar from the crowd. ‘Taker and Wyatt stared each other down before. The Undertaker dressed in his long black coat and black hat pointed at Wyatt and then slid his thumb across his throat. Wyatt just laughed.

RAW Mar 23rd
Bray Wyatt was shown backstage in the darkness, rocking in his chair. He stroked his beard and began to speak:

“So… it is accepted. After all this time. I was beginning to think you wouldn’t show up. But when I saw you, when I saw you with my own two eyes it only confirmed what I always thought. You are just a man. A man with tricks and past glories. That is all you are. I laugh in your face. YOU ARE NOTHING! WrestleMania is your event. Or it was. It is no longer. This is your end. You… are a broken old… man. Finally, I have found my meaning. My belonging. It is to end you and become a Deadman. To become a Phenom. To become the next Undertaker. To strike fear in the hearts of millions. To leave destruction in my wake. To lead as an example to all. But to do that I must first finish you off. And at WrestleMania, I will lead you on your funeral march. I will be the one to show you to the gates of hell. I… will end you.”
----

Later on in the show, the gong sounded. Fans thought it was going to be Wyatt playing games but instead the true Undertaker made his way out to rapturous applause. After his music stopped the fans continued the clap and a chant of “We’re not worthy” broke out. ‘Taker took a mic:

“BRAY WYATT! You dare to speak ill of the dead. You dare call me mortal. This has awaken me from my slumber. I do not want revenge. I do not want your mercy. I want your soul.”

Fans continued to roar throughout this promo, they were just happy to see “The Deadman” back after weeks of build-up. ‘Taker continued:

“Boy, you really don’t know what you’ve gotten yourself into. I am like no-one you have faced before. Like no-one you can compare to. You call yourself an ‘Eater of Worlds’, I will show you what that really looks like. Look into my eyes. See what I have seen. And ask yourself, do you really want to do this. Do you want me to be responsible for what I do to you? I have been resting for 12 months, I am not weakened, I am stronger! No one will ever take my name. There will never be another like me. Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania, you will REST IN PIECE.”

But The Undertaker’s music did not play, instead it was the sound of Bray Wyatt as the lights went black. A lantern then appeared up on the stage. ‘Taker looked on. Then Bray Wyatt walked out, he nodded his head and starred right back at “The Deadman”. He pointed at the WrestleMania sign. Then lifted the lantern and blew it out to finish the segment in darkness.

WrestleMania March 29th

The stage was set.

After a night of action, Bray Wyatt was ready to battle to become “The New Phenom” in one of WrestleMania’s main events. First the entrances:

Bray Wyatt was out first. Darkness covered the arena with mystical music playing. A spotlight appeared on the ramp. A rocking chair alone in a room of black. Then four coffins were moved in place in a semi-circle around the chair. Lights out. “Live in Fear” played and out walked “the Eater of World’s in his ‘Mania attire. A long black sleeveless coat, a nod to the “Deadman” perhaps? His usual straw hat replaced with a black styled hat. A dark red sleeveless top with the words “Your Last Breath” written on it with black trousers with a grey misted scull design. Wyatt brought out his lantern and sat in his chair. The first coffin opened, a man dressed in The Undertaker’s debut attire walked out holding a lantern covering his face. The second then opened with a man dressed in Undertaker’s Ministry attire, the third was an American Badass ‘Taker and the fourth, his return to the Deadman attire. All with lanterns covering their faces. Wyatt then motioned and they all returned to their coffins as he walked down the ramp. He entered the ring and lifted the lantern like The Undertaker on one knee, then blew out the lantern.

Next out was the real Undertaker. The gong sounded and clips of previous WrestleMania’s went by ending with Brock’s win last year as the screen went red. Two hearses pulled up either side of the stage, each with wreaths. One simply read “Bray Wyatt” the other “22-1”. An army of souls then appeared in a chain gang. Fire lit up the stage. Then the “Deadman” himself appeared out of the fire. “A DEADMAN REBORN!” Exclaimed Cole as ‘Taker stood at the entrance. He slowly made his way down to the ring and removed his hat on the steps. He entered the ring and the opponents stood across the ring from one another. The bell sounded.

The Undertaker vs. Bray Wyatt

The crowd were already chanting “This is Awesome” and the match hadn’t even begun. Wyatt stood with his arms outstretched. He then faced up to ‘Taker and said “Welcome back”. Wyatt then went to strike “The Deadman” but ‘Taker blocked it and fired back sending Wyatt into the ropes. He hit and Irish Whip and then a shoulder block. Wyatt stayed down holding his shoulder, a little shocked at the aggression of The Undertaker. “The Demon of Death Valley” just stood over him. He allowed Wyatt to get up and then they locked up in a collar and elbow tie-up. Wyatt took advantage with a knee to the ribs. He sent ‘Taker into the ropes and bent over but ‘Taker saw this and just kicked Wyatt off his feet. Again, Wyatt stunned by the “Deadman”. Once back on his feet Wyatt tried to sucker his opponent in with a lock up but ‘Taker wasn’t having any of it and just punched Wyatt in the face. Wyatt was sent to the floor for a third time. However, this time ‘Taker followed up, pulling Wyatt to his feet by his hair and placing him in the corner for some stiff MMA style strikes. He then grabbed “The Eater of Worlds” around the neck and threw him across the ring. “Look at the fury of the Deadman!” exclaimed Cole. ‘Taker followed up by lifting Wyatt again in the corner and focusing on the mid-section with knees and shoulder barges. Wyatt was again left floored and when he got to his feet he was clotheslined over the top rope. “This match doesn’t look like it will last long,” said JBL. ‘Taker followed to the outside. And bounced Wyatt off everything; the barricade, the ring apron and even smashing his head against the announce table. The “Deadman” entered back inside to break up the count then returned to the floor to throw Wyatt into the steel steps. “It looks like there’s only one dead man in this match, and it’s Bray Wyatt,” Joked Lawler.

Back in the ring, ‘Taker got a close count. He lifted Wyatt yet again by his hair and hoisted him up for the Snake Eyes. He hit it then went to follow up with the Big Boot but Wyatt ducked, hit the ropes and hit his massive cross body. ‘Taker sold the move well, grabbing his ribs as a replay showed. Wyatt stayed on his knees, not looking too worn out considering what he has already been through, he shouted “You didn’t think I was done, did you? I’m just getting started.” Wyatt then rushed ‘Taker and hammered away at the “Phenom” on his knees. The referee had to pull him away but then Wyatt returned to dish out more punishment. Then, when pulled away again, Wyatt stuck the boots to ‘Taker. The Undertaker pulled himself back to his feet and fired away with some strikes until Wyatt cut him off with a knee to the ribs and a body slam. He then hit the ropes and hit a running senton for a two-count.

The crowd then began to sing, “He’s got the Whole World in his Hands” and Wyatt stopped to conduct them. He returned to ‘Taker with some stomps before lifting him and hitting a sidewalk slam for another close count. “Are we seeing the end of the Undertaker right here tonight Cole?” asked JBL. “He’s already been defeated once John but Wyatt wants to finish off The Undertaker for good tonight,” replied Cole. Wyatt then placed ‘Taker in the corner and after a few elbows he lifted Taker to the top. "The Pied Piper of Terror" went for a superplex but ‘Taker slipped out of it and hit a bit Last Ride from the corner. However, he was too tired to make the cover right away and by the time he did, Wyatt kicked out at one. Both men struggled to their feet and traded blows, ‘Taker getting cheers while Wyatt got a mixture of mainly cheers and a few boo’s. The Undertaker, being the better striker, got the advantage and then followed it up by grabbing Wyatt’s neck, setting up for a chokeslam. Wyatt fought out of it with rib shots and elbows to the head then went on the attack but was caught again by a Chokeslam. Two count only as Wyatt kicked out.

‘Taker brought Wyatt back to his feet and went up top for the Old School but Wyatt tugged at “The Deadman’s” arm and sent him crashing into the referee. “The Eater of Worlds” then pulled ‘Taker in for a clothesline but ‘Taker ducked and flipped Wyatt into a Tombstone Piledriver! But it didn’t matter, there was no referee and Wyatt rolled to the ring apron. ‘Taker followed up and big booted Wyatt off the apron and he took a hard bump to the floor. When he was back on his feet, Wyatt saw ‘Taker running at the opposite ropes and then diving over the ropes at him in an over-the-top-rope suicide dive. The two men stayed down and eventually the referee got back to his feet and started counting. Both men entered just before the count out. Wyatt was first up to his feet and whipped ‘Taker into the ropes but it was reversed and “The New Face of Fear” ate a flying clothesline. ‘Taker had enough and sliced his thumb across his throat. He waited for Wyatt and lifted him in a Tombstone Piledriver. Wyatt managed to turn it around and hit a Sister Abigail! 1…2… kick out!

“How close was that!” shouted Lawler. The WWE Universe thought that might have been it, especially after the finish Taker’s bout last year. Wyatt sat with ‘Taker’s head in his lap. He got to his feet staggered back into the turnbuckle. He regained his bearings and went for the downed ‘Taker but “The Phenom” locked in the Hell’s Gate submission. Wyatt struggled and struggled until he eventually managed to lift The Undertaker while in the hold, just enough to lift him off the ground and swing him into the turnbuckle. “What a match Cole, what a match,” commented JBL. Both men struggled to their feet and teed off again. Strike after strike and both men were really feeling the effects, Wyatt’s knees were going wobbly and the commentators played up 'Taker's concussion from last year. Eventually, one shot sent Wyatt on his back in the corner and ‘Taker waited positioning himself for a Chokeslam. Wyatt pulled himself up by the ropes and then went into his Spider Walk. ‘Taker just looked at “The New Face of Fear” then walked over and booted Wyatt in the face! “That’s one way to deal with him Cole,” Said Lawler. Lifting him one more time The Undertaker hit the Tombstone with the Rest in Piece pin and the tongue sticking out. But the arm came up! Wyatt is still in this!

‘Taker looked shocked then collapsed next to Wyatt. Then in a perfect picture moment, Wyatt sat up just like The Undertaker usually does. Then ‘Taker did. The two stared across from each other before pulling themselves back to their feet one last time. “How are these guys still going?” JBL questioned. ‘Taker went for a whip, Wyatt reversed with a knee, hit the ropes and got caught in a chokeslam. Before ‘Taker could go for a pin. Wyatt got on his knees. “Give up Mark, you know you are just a man.” The commentators fell silent. ‘Taker grabbed him by the throat and chokeslamed him again. Wyatt again, groggily getting to his knees, “It’s okay Mark. Do not fear the Reaper. Your time has come.” Again, ‘Taker grabbed him by the throat but this time Wyatt jumped out of it, hit ‘Taker in the ribs and hit a Sister Abigail. Then a pause.

A kneeling Wyatt leant over ‘Taker, laughing. Just laughing. An end to an Era. But Wyatt wasn’t done, like a sick super villain, he hoisted ‘Taker up in a Tombstone Piledriver and before he hit the final move, the camera zoomed in on his face as he shouted “THE END!” Then the drop, Wyatt copying ‘Taker’s pin and it was all over. Bray Wyatt had defeated The Undertaker.

Silence. No commentary, no music. Just the sight of Wyatt kneeling over The Undertaker. He began to laugh, so much so he couldn’t stand. He eventually did and was handed his lantern. He placed it on the Undertaker’s chest then, swivelled it around to reveal the words “In this lantern it doth contain the soul of The Undertaker.” Wyatt celebrated briefly, resting on the ropes for support. He then picked up the lantern, standing over the Undertaker and blew it out. Black out.
----
That was the last we saw of The Undertaker.

A New Phenom was born.

And his name is Bray Wyatt.
